- Utilizing orange as the predominant color—characteristic of the markings of Bengal tigers and said to be one of the lucky colors for individuals born during the Year of the Tiger—the tiger mask in the stamp design incorporates elements with symbolic meaning. Several of the patterns and details were created with the style of Asian textiles in mind as well as green flowers that represent the arrival of spring, which Lunar New Year also signals in Chinese culture. The motif atop the tiger’s head—printed with purple foil—references the celestial themes of the Chinese zodiac. On the stamp pane, simplified illustrations of the 12 zodiac animals are printed with gold foil.
The tiger is the third of the 12 zodiac animal signs associated with the Chinese lunar calendar. Many ancient fables and legends explain the origin of the zodiac signs. The most common story tells of the animals racing across a river to determine their order in the cycle. The rat crossed by riding on the back of the ox, jumping ahead at the last minute to win the race. Next came the ox, then the tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, ram, monkey, rooster, and dog, followed by the boar in last place.

As with other zodiac signs, personality traits and other attributes are often associated with people born in the year of a particular animal. Those born during the Year of the Tiger may be seen as brave, confident, and well-liked by others. Blue, orange, and gray are lucky colors for Tigers, and yellow lilies and cineraria may also bring good luck.
Lunar New Year is one of the most important holidays of the year for many Asian communities around the world and is primarily celebrated by people of Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Tibetan, Mongolian, Malaysian, and Filipino heritage. Across these varied cultures, many traditions exist for ringing in a new year of good luck and prosperity.

| The stamp features a detail from a photograph of the billowing Stars and Stripes.
A traditional take on an old favorite, the new U.S. Flag stamp adds a touch of majesty and patriotic grace to First-Class Mail correspondence.
The words “USA” and “FOREVER” are printed on the bottom of the design. Terrence W. McCaffrey was the art director of the project and Greg Breeding of Charlottesville, VA, designed the stamp with an existing photograph of the flag taken by Tom Grill of New York City.

 | The fondest holiday memories often include the scent of warm ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and molasses used in gingerbread drifting throughout the house. With a little imagination and a lot of patience, gingerbread can be converted into a whimsical house decorated with stiff royal icing and sparkling candies.
Building gingerbread houses today can be as simple as buying kits or as complex as constructing small buildings from scratch, giving people of all skill levels the chance to create joyous holiday memories.
Baker Teresa Layman created the gingerbread houses specifically for these stamps. Sally Andersen-Bruce photographed them and art director Derry Noyes designed the stamps.

| On August 2, 2016, Las Vegas, Nevada, the United States Postal Service® released the 20-design Pets stamp (Forever® priced at 47 cents) in double-sided pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) booklets, each Set of 20 stamps.
With this booklet of 20 stamps, the U.S. Postal Service celebrates the animals in our lives that bring us joy, companionship, and love. The stamp art features existing photographs of different animals taken against white backgrounds. Each photograph represents animals from these groups: puppies, betta fish, iguanas, hamsters, goldfish, parrots, guinea pigs, tortoises, rabbits, kittens, corn snakes, mice, hermit crabs, chinchillas, gerbils, dogs, parakeets, horses, cats, and geckos. Art director Derry Noyes designed the stamps with existing photographs by Eric Isselée.

The mask design on the stamp incorporates symbolic elements. Some of these patterns are made in the style of Asian textiles. Purple flowers represent the arrival of spring. In Chinese culture, the Lunar New Year also marks the arrival of spring. The star in the center of the bull's head represents the celestial phenomena of the Chinese zodiac.
Art director Antonio Alcalá designed the stamp with original artwork by Camille Chew. Sold in blocks of 20, the Forever stamp will always be worth the current 1-ounce price of first-class mail.
The Year of the Ox begins on February 12, 2021 and ends on January 31, 2022. People born in the same year are believed to have the same personality traits and other attributes as the zodiac they belong to. For example, the belief holds that the Ox and people born in the year of the Ox are honest, hardworking and very dependable.
