On October 13, 2011, in New York, New York, the Postal Service™ issued a Madonna of the Candelabra by Raphael definitive stamp (Forever® priced at 44 cents), in one design in a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) double-sided booklet of 20 stamps. The 2011 Christmas stamp features a detail from a work by the Italian master Raphael, entitled Madonna of the Candelabra. This tondo (circular painting), oil on panel, dates to around 1513 and is now in the collection of the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore, Maryland. Richard Sheaff served as art director for this issuance.

Reminiscent of the 50 flags encircling the Washington Monument, these three U.S. flags are shown as if on poles arranged in acircular formation. Morrison was the rare author who achieved both bestseller status and critical success. In her later novels, including Paradise(1998), Love (2003), A Mercy (2008), Home (2012), and God Help the Child (2015), she continued to experiment with language andpush the possibilities of storytelling. Art director Ethel Kessler designed this stamp with a photograph by Deborah Feingold. The Toni Morrison stamp is being issued as a Forever® stamp in panes of 20.
